Novak Djokovic close to peak after walkover victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
“When Jo-Wilfried Tsonga retired trailing Novak Djokovic in Tuesday’s US Open quarterfinals 6-3 6-2, it marked the third time during the tournament that the world No. 1 benefited from a walkover or retirement”.

Sevastova, playing in her first grand slam quarter-final, never recovered from falling and turning her right ankle in the second game of the opening set. By Friday, Djokovic will have completed just one full match in an 11-day span.
“I always believe in myself, no matter what my ranking”, Wozniacki – who has slipped to 74th in the world – subsequently said, according to the BBC. “As the tournament progresses, I feel like I’m getting better”. “That’s all I can do on my end”.
Monfils had lost six consecutive major quarterfinals since reaching his only previous semifinal, 8½ years ago at the French Open.
“He s one of the few players that I will definitely pay a ticket to watch”, Djokovic said.
“I have to say it again, I really wish Jo a quick recovery”, said 2016 Australian and French Open champion Djokovic.
“The quality of my game and level of performance has risen in last couple of days, which obviously encourages me prior to the last four”.
” I’m trying to improve my mental side because I know that I have to stay focused on my game, try to be here in this moment, not think about what happens, think about the positive things, just go for it and try to stay relaxed when it is a little bit close.”
“That’s the position where I want to be”, the Serbian said.
On top of all this, the draw has fallen the Serb’s way, too.
Former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki made it to US Open semi-finals after she beat Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova in straight sets in NY.
The audacious Frenchman stunned the US Open crowd with quite possibly his cheekiest trick shot yet in his clash against countryman Lucas Pouille.
But the entertaining Monfils has been playing the best tennis of his career lately, winning all 15 sets he’s played at Flushing Meadows during this tournament. “It’s something I had already in the past, so I know exactly what’s happening”, he said.
He wound up losing 12 of 14 points right after the let call and five games in a row to drop that set 6-1. The Serb did so “really” won two matches to reach the last four, and even against two players that have proven harmless, Jerzy Janowicz (6-3 5-7 6-2 6-1) and Kyle Edmund ( 6-2 6-1 6-4).
The other women’s quarterfinal pits two women who’ve never been this far before at a Grand Slam tournament: 10th-seeded Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic and 92nd-ranked Ana Konjuh of Croatia.
Meanwhile Monfils was his dynamic self and invincible from the service line in a commanding win over 22-year-old Pouille. Of course, this grand slam is very unique for me.
