Along with the new iPhones, some analysts expect Apple use today’s event to promote new gear from Beats Electronics, the high-end headphone maker that Apple acquired two years ago for $3 billion.
At its highly anticipated annual September unveiling event on Wednesday, Apple announced that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be on the market by Friday, Sept. 16.
The new iPhone 7 sports a slightly new look and comes in two new colours, a matte black and a glossy black. This is 60 percent faster than the iPhone 6, making it more than just a small update on the technology. The price was not disclosed.
One newly famous app developer showed new capabilities developed for the Apple Watch on Wednesday, as Niantic Inc. displayed new capabilities for its blockbuster “Pokémon Go” mobile game.
And that’s probably because, unlike with past tech Apple’s killed, there’s no clearly superior standard waiting to fill in for the humble headphone jack.
“It’s pathetic for Apple to fidget with the headphone jack and call it ‘courage, ‘” one person user said on Twitter. The 3.5mm headphone jack is gone, meaning audio will come through the new stereo speakers or a headset attached via the Lightning port. The Apple Watch has been the only major new product released during Cook’s reign, and sales of the device so far have been lukewarm.
