The White House tried to play down the claim, saying it believed Chinese activity in the area was at the same level as previous months.

The two men shook hands and chatted for about two minutes as they waited to take their seats at a gala dinner ahead of Thursday’s East Asia Summit, according to Yasay and several of Duterte’s aides. The aircraft will be used to monitor Philippine waters, he said, at a time when the US treaty ally is trying to boost its surveillance capabilities to cope with China’s growing assertiveness in the South China Sea.
“They met at the holding room”.
He says “not everybody in America agrees with me on this by the way”.
“We have a lot of ties between the United States and the Philippines”. And I think it’s very important that we have a relationship. “I didn’t know what had happened, but when I felt metal under my son’s shirt, I knew it was a bomb”.
On East Asia Summit, the Prime Minister said, it is the premier forum for discussions on the challenges and opportunities before the Asia Pacific region.
“The exchange consisted of pleasantries between the two”.
US President Barack Obama cancels scheduled meeting in a summit with President Rodrigo Duterte, as reported by the White House on Monday, September 6. “I am the president of a sovereign country and I am not answerable to anyone except the Filipino people”, Duterte was quoted by CNN.
“You must be respectful”.
In a statement read out Tuesday by his spokesman, Duterte said his “strong comments” to certain questions by a reporter “elicited concern and distress”.
Calling people “putang ina”, (also translated as “son of a b*tch”) is becoming one of Duterte’s best-known insults.
Duterte expressed regret for his word choice the next day and thanked Obama, in a written statement, for the continued support of his country.
In commenting about his cancellation of the meeting with Duterte, Mr Obama said, “Clearly he’s a colorful guy”.
Earlier on Wednesday, Duterte also briefly met with US President Barack Obama.
He says it’s always hard to get things done when lawmakers are in the midst of campaigning for re-election.
“If you look at all these figures, we can not emphasize too much the importance of ASEAN as a partner for trade, investment, people-to-people exchanges, not to mention the significance of its rich resources”, said Lee Sun-jin, professor at Sogang Institute of Southeast Asian Studies.
