A worldwide computer glitch in the check-in systems for British Airways has caused massive delays and cancellations for travelers Tuesday.

“We are sorry for the delay to their journeys”, it said.
An unexplained computer outage has resulted in widespread delays for British Airways flights.
Other travellers said staff had resorted to giving out handwritten boarding passes. Thousands of passengers had to wait for hours in several airports.
British Airways released a statement announcing, “Our IT teams are working as hard as they can to quickly fix a problem with our check-in system”.
Passengers flying with the airline complained of significant delays at its check-in desks, baggage drop and even on the tarmac waiting to take-off.
The spokesman told ATW that, while the problems had initially been limited to the U.S., the delays to flights arriving in London had led to knock-on delays on other services.
The British Airways site still states, “Check in may take a bit longer than usual, so we would encourage customers to check in online before they reach the airport”.
There was further disruption for passengers at London City Airport on Tuesday after, police said, protestors “locked themselves together” on the runway.

British Airways passengers in London’s Heathrow airport faced additional delays as a Black Lives Matter protest halted flights for six hours at the aiport, with more than 120 flights cancelled, delayed, or diverted from the protest, Reuters reported. The airline described the outage as an “IT glitch”. It advised passengers to check with airlines on the status of flights.
