Controversy surrounding Trump’s campaign donation to Bondi lingers

In Florida this week, Bondi’s office has said that Trump’s gift had no influence on her handling of the Trump University case. Here’s a recap of where we are with the controversy. “Trump-Foundation-and-Donald-J. -Trump-IRS-complaint-9-7-16.pdf” target=”_blank”>the letter from CREW states.

– There was no basis for any investigation in Trump University, because at the time of the original media inquiries in 2013, this office had received only one consumer complaint. In September of that year, her office announced that it was considering joining a lawsuit being brought against Trump University by NY attorney general Eric Schneiderman.

In 1988, the NY businessman founded a political action committee in Florida called the Noise Pollution Action Fund.

Excerpt: “In light of the suspicions hanging over Donald Trump and Pam Bondi, the Florida attorney general, this opening quote from her Republican National Convention speech is particularly rich. ‘Nov”.

Though there’s no specific date, Bondi’s office declined to pursue an investigation.

Trump did not write a check to Pam Bondi’s reelection bid, but he hosted the March 2014 event at a discount price at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla. Quite the contrary: It’s a picture of an amateurish bumbler, spreading his money around in ways that get him fined and censured by state and federal authorities because, as he later says when he gets caught, he doesn’t know what the law is or how it works.

But Bondi did personally solicit the contribution, according to a report in June of this year by the Associated Press.

Like many of Trump’s problems, the Bondi flap is an outgrowth of the ill-fated Trump University, a now-shuttered operation that claimed to teach real estate secrets to students.

– There was never any recommendation by the staff to investigate or sue Trump University in 2013, and consequently, the matter never rose to the attorney general’s level for any decision of any kind.

A liberal watchdog, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, filed a complaint with the Internal Revenue Service on Wednesday, calling for an investigation into the contribution.

Gerber, 55, served in the Florida Legislature from 2000-2010, before losing the race for attorney general to Bondi by 13 percentage points in 2010. No decision has been made. And she’s done an incredible job as the attorney general of Florida.

Bondi has not waived confidentiality.

HORSLEY: Those words are hanging over Trump this week as he fields questions about a 3-year-old campaign contribution he made to a fundraising committee for Florida’s attorney general.

Trump and Bondi both have claimed they’re longtime friends. “I believe she knows better”.

Bondi would not respond to Times/Herald questions. “I received a call from the Trump Foundation, saying that they had declined to accept the refund”. “Many turned that down”.

Trump and his daughter, Ivanka, also donated $500 each to Bondi’s re-election campaign, and an additional $125,000 to the Florida GOP, which used some of those funds to help Bondi’s campaign.
