Almost everyone these days has headphones and speakers based on the 3.5 mm headphone jack and they could essentially become redundant if they invest in the iPhone 7, unless a specific Lightening-adapter is created, which let’s face it is the last thing anyone wants to buy. The wireless technology works alongside iCloud and iOS to give users a seamless experience that does not require additional pairing across iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and even iMac.
Apple’s event of the year ended a few hours ago, showcasing the heavily rumored iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus among other things.
With the introduction of the new glossy white Ceramic Apple Watch, Apple has discontinued the previous-generation 18-karat Gold and Rose Gold Apple Watch Edition models.
The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have eliminated its headphone jack in efforts to make a phone that is water resistant.
Instead, new phones will come with special adapters that plug into the same port as a charging/data cord. The company also rolled out Apple Watch 2.0, which it said was second only to Rolex in terms of sales revenue.
The smartphone’s camera has been updated with the biggest improvements in the higher end iPhone 7 Plus.
Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster is among the industry analysts predicting more dramatic changes to the iPhone next fall to herald the 10-year anniversary of the first model.
Some of the iRig range connects a microphone or pre-amp to the iPhone via the 3.5mm socket, whilst their latest product, the iKlip A/V helps transmit live voice and video back to the studio, or live on social media, via the headphone jack.
The larger-screen 7 Plus model begins at US$769.
The new iPhones will debut September 16 in the U.S., China and more than two dozen other countries.
On the business side, bean-counters will be watching closely to see whether this iPhone can reverse a recent stagnation in handset sales for Apple. Existing watches can get new software on September 13.
The battery life is no better, topping out at about one day per charge, but it did get a faster CPU, better graphics chip, and it’s a lot brighter, now able to crank out up to 1000 nits, a brightness metric Apple summed up as “a whole lot of nits”.
