Omar Ayub, the son of former minister for foreign affairs Gohar Ayub Khan and grandson of late President of Pakistan Ayub Khan, had emerged victor from NA-19 in re-election in some of the polling stations, which held after he filed a petition challenging the victory of PTI’s Amir Zaman at the seat in 2013’s general elections.

For the first time in Pakistan, authorities have decided to hold NA-19 Haripur re-election under a biometric system, while a tough contest is expected between the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), ARY News reported. Omar Ayub Khan was unseated on the orders of a three-member bench of the apex court. The ECP has also announced that it would be using biometric machines at 30 selected polling stations in the constituency on an experimental basis.
The Commission, in a letter to the PESCO, said that it would introduce bio-metric machines in the bye-election for test-run and for accomplishing the task un-interrupted power supply in Haripur district till the completion of polling process should be ensured.
A total of 513 polling stations had been set up for 577,480 registered voters in the constituency, 209 of which were declared sensitive and 40 highly-sensitive.
Other political parties including Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), APML and PML-S have also fielded their candidates however major clash is expected between PTI and PML-N candidate.

The zeal of the youth in the area favouring the PML-N candidate had already sealed the fate of Dr Aamir Zaman of the PTI, he added. Reham Khan, wife of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, led the PTI candidate’s election campaign.
