Meanwhile, upset victories by Wisconsin (over LSU), Texas (over Notre Dame) and Texas A&M (over UCLA) propelled all three into both Top 25. Texas came out of nowhere after their win over Notre Dame to check in at #11 in the AP poll, but just #20 in the coaches’ poll.

FIT is one of four Gulf South Conference members represented in the top-25 rankings, joining West Georgia (2), North Alabama (20) and Valdosta State (23).

The Panthers almost entered the rankings at the release of the preseason poll, receiving the most votes of any team outside the top 25. The USA Today’s Amway Coaches Poll rounds out their top ten with Florida State, Ohio State, Stanford, Michigan, Houston, Michigan State, Georgia and Iowa. LSU also dropped from five to 22. Florida State 1-0 4. The AP has MI at #5, while Stanford is the choice of the coaches.
