All Philadelphia eyes turn to Wentz as possible Eagles’ starter

It traded a boatload of picks to move up in the draft and take him.

When Carson Wentz lines up under center at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, he’ll become the first rookie quarterback to start a season opener for the Eagles in 77 years.

“Everybody has their opinions”.

“He pays attention to detail”, said Pederson.

Wentz was still taken No. 2 overall, after the Eagles traded with the Browns to move up to that pick, but it could be assumed that Wentz wants to prove to the Browns that he should not have been passed up, especially after comments made by Paul DePodesta about Wentz’s potential.

“I feel like I’ve earned respect just from how I go about my business, how I carry myself”, Wentz said.

Adding intrigue to the game is the comment that came from Browns chief strategy officer Paul DePodesta back in July regarding Wentz, when DePodesta was asked why a team that has struggled to find the answer at quarterback chose to pass on Wentz, one of the top quarterback prospects over the past couple years.

With that said, Pederson also mentioned Wentz’s running ability, something Sam Bradford didn’t bring, and also said he doesn’t want to “harness” or hold back Wentz’s deep passing ability.

“Once upon a time the Browns had the 2 pick in the National Football League draft”. He threw for 320 yards, completed 73 percent of his passes and threw two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Peterson said Wentz, who played in a pro-style offense at North Dakota State, stood out head and shoulders above his FCS competition.

Wentz may not have played a lot in the preseason, but in the one game he did play in, he looked sharp, displaying all the attributes noted by PFF.

“A great opportunity for him”.

After his time spent in Kansas City, where Pederson was the offensive coordinator, many people considered Daniel the best quarterback on the free agent market yet to get the chance to start in the NFL. “We are excited for that”. The way he led the huddle on Monday at practice and just what he’s done the last couple days, just getting himself ready to go.

“This is just the beginning of the new normal for me”, Wentz said after Wednesday’s practice. “I really don’t want to address the past and everything”.

Neither team limited its offseason makeover to changing head coaches and quarterbacks.

For Griffin, this is now Year 5 and a fresh start with the Browns after four seasons with the Redskins.

The Eagles traded high-priced cornerback Byron Maxwell to Miami in a deal that also included linebacker Kiko Alonso. No word has come down regarding right tackle Lane Johnson’s suspension, so he should be available.

“Things changed around here pretty quickly. I just know having been in the position that when quarterbacks get hit early it affects you the rest of the game”. “I really just block it out”, Wentz said. And you know, I knew I was ready. I don’t need, necessarily, that extra yard.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – That chip Carson Wentz says he has on his shoulder has nothing to do with being snubbed by the Cleveland Browns. Maybe the perception outside of the building is a little different but I don’t believe in that expectation, which probably leads to, “Hey, young rookie quarterback, don’t expect much this season” that type – that’s not my expectation at all.
