Another Reddit user, Randomd0g, offered a similar explanation: “I have a similar one to this which makes it so it’s not just a complete “all in her head” theory”.
“The flying red convertible also suggests that Sandy is happily being whisked away to heaven at the end of the movie”.
The theory continues, pointing out the auto flying at the end of the film, which “promptly defies the laws of gravity and flies at into the sky”.
Atomicbolt asks: ‘How did the auto fly?’
Fans of the movie Grease love this movie and can quote the entire thing front and back. For those not familiar, in that song Danny says he saved Sandy’s life after “she almost drowned” in a meet-cute; however, the theory suggests that she did drown and the whole film is her dying dream.
Another theory has even started popping up, speculating that throughout the entire film BOTH Danny and Sandy were dead and “Grease” is Danny’s dream being played out, according to Good Housekeeping.
And as she died, as the last remaining oxygen left her brain, she had a prolonged dream of an entire year of high school – a colorful fantasy in which she met the hunky guy trying to save her at her new high school… where everyone sang and danced their feelings for some reason…
‘The visions get increasingly outlandish as time passes, until finally, as Danny desperately tries to resuscitate her on the beach, she sees herself flying into Heaven in her dying moments.
Fans on Reddit have highlighted how Summer Nights ends with the line “goodbye to Sandra Dee”, suggesting she’s in the process of drowning.
Posting to Reddit, the fan questioned how the auto flew at the end of the film before offering their own explanation.
“Everything that happens in the last scene is just a little TOO ideal”.
Responding to the fan theories, one Reddit user simply wrote: “Explain Grease 2”.
