Ms Abedin’s announcement comes after a report emerged that he had allegedly exchanged sexual photos with a woman. In an email dating to 2013 as Clinton was recovering from a concussion after falling, Abedin also warned a fellow staffer that the former secretary of state is “often confused”, according to one of the few emails released from the server.

“After long and painful consideration and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband”, Abedin, 40, said in a statement. “I know Anthony Weiner well, and she will be far better off without him”, Trump began in his statement.

Abedin has always been one of Clinton’s closest aides, matched only by Cheryl Mills in her access and relationship with the woman who could be the next president. And it died again after McCain repeatedly sold out his supposed Maverick credentials during his cynical 2008 presidential campaign against Barack Obama, and then it really died during his subsequent desperate campaign to hold his Senate seat in 2010. But she has been thrust into the spotlight for another attribute as a wronged political wife.
Still, Weiner grew on her over the following years, as they kept crossing paths and became friendly.
Abedin has been tangled in several ethical and legal controversies involving Clinton and the Clinton family charity.
He offered no evidence that Weiner had access to classified material.
He said he lied to protect his wife, Huma Abedin, who was not present at the Manhattan press conference.
Republicans have also alleged that donors to the Clinton Foundation got preferential treatment while Clinton was secretary of state. Abedin and Weiner faced a similar scandal in 2011, when Weiner accidentally posted an explicit photo of himself on Twitter.
