Bill O’Brien: ‘Looks decent’ for JJ Watt to play Week 1

The team officially activated Watt off the physically unable to perform list on Saturday. Watt said back in August that he didn’t plan to miss his first National Football League start of his career, and Texans fans can likely bet No. 99 will be on the field come Week 1, creating havoc for the Bears offense.

The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, who underwent surgery July 20 to fix a herniated disk, spent the entire preseason on the physically unable to perform list. He has started every game in his five-year career.

Despite those injuries, Watt won his third defensive player of the year award after recording 17.5 sacks last season.

Texans head coach, Bill O’Brien is happy to see his team looking in shape.

“In 2012, I missed all of training camp and didn’t have a problem there”, he said on July 31.

Brown tore his quadriceps a year ago in the Texans’ regular season finale against the Jaguars. “So I’m just trying to keep that going and I think I’ll be out there pretty soon”. Brown probably isn’t as far along in his recovery as Watt and could miss Week 1.

O’Brien said the Texans players will have the weekend off, before returning to practice on Monday.
