Tennessee vs. Virginia Tech at Bristol Motor Speedway
Since it was first announced back in 2013, the Pilot Flying J Battle at Bristol has been the talk of college football.

Before they leave, members of the Virginia Tech Army ROTC are running the game ball 134 miles around campus – that’s the same distance from Blacksburg to Bristol.
“Bristol Motor Speedway has such a huge economic impact in our entire, not only the city but the entire region”, Keen said.
“You prepare for teams different, that’s how you get beat”, sophomore defensive lineman Vinny Mihota said.
The Tennessee Volunteers and Virginia Tech Hokies will square off at Bristol Motor Speedway on September 10, and, when they do, some fans’ seats will be higher than the video display hanging over the field.
Tennessee held Appalachian State scoreless throughout the second half and overtime Thursday night, but the Vols’ defense didn’t play perfectly in their season opener.
All 150,000 tickets have been sold out in anticipation of the game that’s supposed to set the attendance record on Saturday. Tim Eads said fans can help with the traffic and confusion caused by Saturday’s game by being prepared before they arrive. I still think the Auburn run game is more risky if John Franklin III is behind center, but don’t know much about his passing ability otherwise. “We have to be locked in to the game plan and locked in from the first snap”.
That sentiment of having something to prove has certainly become a theme for this game, with both teams coming off of less-than-desirable starts to their seasons in week one. There are no preseason games so you find out a lot about your football team.
Dobbs, a senior leader for the Vols, said everything about the performance wasn’t negative. “We did a few good things, but by and large, just not consistent enough”. “I’ve watched the whole secondary to look for any small details or advantages I can take away from it”. “At the end of the day, when this game ends, it’s just going to count as another game, whether it’s in the win column or the loss column for us”.

Two of the fumbles were by quarterback Jerod Evans, a transfer from Trinity Valley Community College. “By and large, we tried to be intelligent with the football”.
