The latest numbers show almost 596 travel-related Zika cases across the state and 56 non-travel-related cases.
“I think what this highlights really is how much we don’t know about Zika virus, that they err on the side of caution”, Potter said.

So far there is no evidence of local transmission of the Zika virus in the Golden State, but it has been reported in travelers returning home.

They explained that these latest cases were not among the initial 83 suspected cases that were sent to the United States for testing. They are also coordinating efforts to monitor and test local mosquitoes, and running campaigns aimed at preventing the virus from gaining a foothold in New Jersey.
