Hume said in a statement that he was “happy to take on” his new assignment during this “extraordinary election”. “I’m honored to be asked”.
Van Susteren was motivated to leave in part because she had been unhappy and uncomfortable with the way Ailes ran the network the past few years, and with the way the network was perceived, two of the sources said.
Big changes are coming at Fox News, just a couple months before one of the biggest elections in recent memory!
Van Susteren has hosted “On the Record” since 2002.
Once again, Fox News is breaking all the rules in terms of how things in the media are world are supposed to happen. Van Susteren was not immediately available for comment, and the news wasn’t reflected on her popular blog or Twitter feed early Tuesday morning.
But Van Susteren, one of Fox’s most celebrated and respected hosts, had been among the first to publically defend former chairman and founder Roger Ailes when Carlson slapped Ailes with a sexual harassment suit in July. It was a relationship that worked well for both sides as Van Susteren’s show was a solid ratings performer, and brought her added fame and fortune once Fox News toppled CNN as the No. 1 cable television network. A top five cable network, FNC has been the most-watched news channel in the country for more than 14 years and according to a Suffolk University/USA Today poll, is the most trusted television news source in the country.

An much as the focus has been on the epic fall of Ailes, what Carlson accomplished through her lawsuit could be the development that has the largest and most lasting effect.
