England Captain Wayne Rooney Happy With New Role
The 23-year-old striker fired another blank in England’s late 1-0 win against Slovakia in World Cup qualifying, but he has no concerns about his drought.

Adam Lallana snatched a 95th-minute victor against 10-man Slovakia in Trnava yesterday to prevent Allardyce from becoming the first England manager since Bobby Robson in 1982 not to win his first game.
“A father and his son in a wheelchair came to the hotel this morning and asked if it was okay to have a picture”.
“I thought it should have been a second goal [after Walcott’s] but the referee had a hard job, and we finished the job in the end”. I had it with me in my pocket, we won, so it’ll stay with me.
There were concerns over whether Rooney would continue playing for England after Euro 2016 but he has vowed to play on and admitted he is proud to wear the nation team shirt.
Adam Lallana celebrates with Gary Cahill after scoring a last-gasp victor for England against Slovakia in Trnava. “He made it clear he wanted a clean sheet, and I thought we were very disciplined”.
“I think I didn’t score in my first seven or eight games and then to go on and win the golden boot proves that it was just a matter of time”.
Harry Kane is not now the domineering number nine England need and want him to be, Raheem Sterling did not bring his Manchester City form with him to Trnava and Jordan Henderson failed to take his chance in the centre. He’s been a goalscorer all his life and I want him still to score goals, but he reads a game as he reads it.
For all their possession, particularly against 10 men when home captain Martin Skrtel was sent off for a stamp on Harry Kane, they lacked the wherewithal to make their dominance pay in a lacklustre Group F encounter in Trnava. So I’ve no problems playing there.
“I have said many times that I am a proud person to play for England”, he added.
“This is the biggest job I’ve ever had”.
Shearer feels Rooney was too far away from goal, indicating that perhaps Sam Allardyce has to think about playing others in the role and pushing the skipper into a more advanced position. Everyone is looking at you. It was impossible to try and attempt to reply to all the goodwill messages from across the country.
“There were more balls going in the box and more chances being created and you just sensed something was coming, which is a great quality to have in the team”. Everyone back home is happy.
“We got what we deserved”, he said.

It looked as if the visitors would come no closer than a left-foot snapshot from Lallana that hit the left-hand post and bounced across goal.
