Samsung stops shipping Galaxy Note 7 after phones explode

Samsung did not elaborate on which regions of the world would be affected by the delay, as there are several variants of the phone for different markets.

“Shipments of the Galaxy Note 7 are being delayed due to additional tests being conducted for product quality”, Samsung said, declining to elaborate what it is testing and what markets are delayed. The move came after reports that batteries in some of the jumbo smartphones exploded while they were being charged. South Korea’s Yonhap News said five or six explosions were reported by consumers.

AT&T customers who own the recently released Samsung Galaxy Note 4 are wondering when their version of the update will be rolling out. It cited pictures of severely damaged phones shared in local online communities, social media and YouTube.

Samsung’s rival Apple certainly knows what its like to deal with exploding iPhone controversies, but it has never caused a delay in shipments or even admitted any fault.

There were no confirmed reports of any injuries. The company said it has not received any information from its official channels or test labs to suggest that the batteries it supplies for the Galaxy Note 7 were malfunctioning.

When Samsung launched its latest Note family offering earlier this month in the form of Note 7, many of us were pretty excited as the device was everything any Android enthusiast would want. The stock closed 2 percent lower in the previous session.
