Fox News has put an end to the scandal that engulfed the network after former news anchor Gretchen Carlson claimed that the then chairman and CEO Roger Ailes fired her after she refused his sexual advances.
In a statement, Carlson said she was “gratified that 21st Century Fox took decisive action” after she filed her complaint.
After Carlson filed the lawsuit against Ailes in early July, several other women came forward with their claims of sexual harassment at Fox News.
Carlson said she is ready to move on to the next chapter in her life and promised to work to help women in the workplace.
The former anchor had filed a lawsuit against the latter due to sexually inappropriate conversations initiated by Ailes that had a negative effect on Carlson in the workplace. Van Susteren has defended Ailes on multiple occasions. While Ailes has long enjoyed the loyalty of Rupert Murdoch, the younger Murdochs – who are chairman and chief executive, respectively, of 21st Century Fox – have long clashed with the Fox News founder. Brit Hume is taking over her show.
The post Fox News settles Gretchen Carlson’s sexual harassment case appeared first on PBS NewsHour. “During her tenure at Fox News, Gretchen exhibited the highest standards of journalism and professionalism”, reads the statement from Fox.
Now out of his Fox job, Ailes is informally advising GOP nominee Donald Trump ahead of the presidential debates this fall.
Carlson, 50, who had been a co-anchor on the morning program “Fox & Friends” reportedly had taped recordings of Ailes’ comments. The network didn’t say why she was leaving.
Ailes, too, now feeling litigious – threatening to sue New York Magazine, which has reported extensively on his alleged harassment issues, often providing lurid details.
Van Susteren continued her statement, saying, “I love my staff, I love my colleagues, and I love the crews”.
She will receive $20 million, and she got an apology from the FNC parent, though not from Ailes himself.

A person in connection with the 21 Century Fox Corporation said it amounted to $200 million, however the news release from the corporation did not specify an official amount.
