Seattle police helped with a childbirth during a traffic stop Sunday morning.

Reynolds reach his light and halted the automobile at MLK and Graham Street.

As the officer approached the car, the father-to-be jumped out of the driver’s side and shouted that his wife was in labour, and pleaded with the officer to let him keep going to a hospital, according to the police statement and audio captured of their interaction.

The officer called for an ambulance, but before it could arrive, the baby was born.

The mother, who has not been identified, can be heard on Reynolds’ dashcam video screaming in pain.

In the dash camera video, the baby girl’s full-throated cry can be heard after other officers arrived in the area to help. “With the help of the child’s mother, Officer Reynolds cleared the baby’s airway and got her breathing again”, the police department’s Jonah Spangenthal-Lee wrote in a Monday blotter post.

Both mother and child were taken in stable condition to a nearby hospital, according to police. “We are so grateful”.
