New solo music from De la Rocha has always been rumored. Maybe I should just go back to bed?

Zack de la Rocha returned on Thursday with his first new solo offering in over a decade. It’s produced by El-P of Run The Jewels.

Featuring guitar work by Matt Sweeney and keyboards by Nick Hook, the tune is also available for free download here.

However, many of those tracks were scrapped, because de la Rocha felt they sounded too much like Rage. After almost 15 years of rumors and whispers the Rage Against the Machine rapper dropped his debut solo single on Thursday morning (Sept. 8), the predictably fierce “Digging for Windows”. El-P and him go back a fair while, and were spotted together in the studio a year ago.

De La Rocha’s RATM bandmates Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk reformed this year as Prophets Of Rage with Public Enemy’s Chuck D and Cypress Hill’s B-Real as vocalists. Update: A representative for de la Rocha confirms that a full-length solo album is indeed forthcoming. And now, here we are today with “Digging For Windows”, with a full-length project presumambly to follow in short order.
