“The board of directors of the Santa Clara Police Officer’s Association has a duty to protect its members and work to make all of their workings environments free of harassing behavior”, the letter added.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color”, Kaepernick said when asked about it after the game.
The 49ers issued a statement saying they supported Kaepernick’s freedom of expression. We encourage them to be respectful and it’s important for them to do that.
She said she was joining Kaepernick, who she said has been treated in a “disgusting” way, in his protest against racism in American society.
Between the lines, Kaepernick’s football career has been on a steady downward trajectory since he lead the 49ers to the 2013 Super Bowl in his second season, sparking breathless prognostications about how he might revolutionize the quarterback position.
To show his appreciation, Kaepernick took to Instagram to thank those who bought his jersey and promised to donate the proceeds “back into the communities”.
“I support our players when they want to see change in society, and we don’t live in a flawless society. I know that I am a black man in a white world”, Kaepernick said of his motives.
Last week, Kaepernick kneeled during the San Francisco 49ers preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. “On the other hand, we believe very strongly in patriotism in the NFL. And I think it’s a sad testament to where we are that people will disrespect the greatness that this country was built on”.
In football news, Kaepernick said he is getting stronger each day after missing the offseason program following three operations and sitting out two weeks in training camp with a exhausted throwing shoulder.
“I’ve never watched a football game but I’ve just bought a Colin Kaepernick jersey that I will proudly wear”, tweeted Twitter user Sean on Friday.
