Dry conditions to yield with Newton bringing rain to Arizona
“[We are] not expecting a whole lot more this evening, especially in the city”, said National Weather Service Meteorologist Gary Zell. The last tropical storm to hit the state was Nora in 1997.

Flash flood watches are in effect Wednesday in southeastern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico, and the National Weather Service has issued a high wind advisory for parts of southeastern Arizona, including Bisbee and mountains near Sierra Vista and Tucson.
“Arizona and New Mexico have observed several inches of rain from post-tropical cyclone Newton as it tracked northward into the desert Southwest”. Tropical Storm Nora brought Yuma its wettest day on record, Tucson meteorologist Jim Meyer said, when nearly four inches of rain fell in one day. Also, do not attempt to cross flooded areas.
Drivers in the Phoenix area made their morning commute in the rain. Crews are preparing for possible flooding caused by the remnants of Tropical Storm Newton.
Sierra Vista police warned citizens Tuesday that several inches of rain and wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour could hit the city beginning early Wednesday.
The National Weather Service says locally heavy rainfall and flash flooding may occur in Arizona with the arrival of Hurricane Newton.
