This North Carolina radio station is only playing songs by rapper Drake

A radio station in Charlotte may have taken Drake’s “Back To Back” a little too seriously, as they’ve been playing Drake songs nonstop for the last couple of days. As 247Urban points out, it’s likely a promo tactic by the station leading up to “a big announcement” on Monday.

Although there were rumors that the Toronto-based rapper bought the radio station for himself, that seems unlikely, since the Federal Communications Commission restricts international parties from purchasing American broadcast stations.

The station began broadcasting in the new all-Drake format over the weekend.

The success of Boom 92 influenced parent company Radio One to launch similar classic hip-hop formats in Philadelphia and Dallas. Area listeners to radio frequency 92.7FM have been subjected to nothing but Drizzy for at least a day now. The stunt worked: Over its first two months, Boom 92 jumped from a 1.0 share (as KROI) to a 3.2 share, and their audience ballooned from 245,000 to 802,000.
