“Coming from Oklahoma, southern Missouri, which leans more toward a Trump voice, I try to understand it”, the star, who was born in Oklahoma and raised in Missouri, says in the latest issue of T Magazine.

Earlier in the interview, Pitt told the T Magazine reporter that he never thought Brexit (the passing of the vote that is leading to the United Kingdom leaving the EU) would ever happen, and he feels the same way about Trump ever having a shot at the White House.

“You gotta understand that it’s also in our DNA”. ‘Would someone please explain that to me? He said we’re a global neighborhood now and are starting to understand each other more.

“I can’t bring myself to think that Trump will be in charge”, he adds. “We have this great line in The Big Short”, Pitt says, leaning on the critically hailed film about the global financial crisis of 2008, which he co-produced. He said that the average American doesn’t have time to keep up with the news on all the TV channels as they are too busy trying to make a living. “Most Americans don’t have time to watch CNN and Fox and Al Jazeera”, he said. Suddenly they hear this voice (Trump’s) saying he feels the same as they do, and is fed up with things, and this just hooks into their DNA. Pitt said he wished that someone would explain that to him, asking where did it go?

Nevertheless, Pitt doesn’t approve of this ” reactionary push for isolation and separation ” happening in this year’s elections. “The actress-turned-director previously slammed Trump for his anti-Muslim remarks back in May”.

‘To me, America is built on people from around the world coming together for freedoms, especially freedom of religion.

Pitt’s full interview with T hits newsstands September 11, and he’ll be back in theaters November 23 starring in the Robert Zemeckis period piece, Allied.

Pitt admitted to approaching Trump supporters in the way he might comprehend a role, grasping at his character’s motives by reaching somewhere deep inside himself.
