Grichuk injury leaves Cards in a pinch
Yet another chapter has been written in the injury-riddled saga that has plagued the 2015 St. Louis Cardinals.

The St. Louis Cardinals have placed outfielder Randal Grichuk on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow strain.
According to GM John Mozeliak, Grichuk’s injury is expected to keep him sidelined for anywhere from 15-20 games.
RHP Carlos Martinez couldn’t overcome an error by 2B Kolten Wong and gave up four unearned runs in the fifth that led to his fifth loss of the year. His 43 extra-base hits rank first among all rookies, and he is third in homers and sixth in RBIs. Rookies Stephen Piscotty, who will play right field, and Tommy Pham, recalled from Triple-A Memphis, also are options in center for the National League Central leaders.
Jason Heyward made his first start of the season in center field for the St. Louis Cardinals but was taken out after two innings due to left hamstring tightness. He left the game after seven innings and had the elbow examined Monday.

“There are ways we can protect him”, Mozeliak said. The cushion built up by the Cardinals to date gives pause to the idea that these injuries are panic-worthy in the long-term.
