Julio Teheran got some rare run support from his Atlanta Braves teammates and took advantage, winning his first game at home this season and first overall since June 19.

Teheran worked seven strong innings and Swanson had three two-out RBIs in a 7-3 series-opening win against the Padres at Turner Field, where the Braves have 17 games remaining before the place is a baseball stadium no more, and where they won for just the 20th time this season.
The Braves got on the board in the first in weird fashion: Ender Inciarte reached on an error, stole second and third, and then after Freddie Freeman failed to bring him home in a sacrifice fly situation, scored the game’s first run on a balk. “I pitched a great game”. One was that the Braves scored eight runs on 12 hits, seven walks, and a hit by pitch, throwing together a mix of fruitful and frustrating innings but leading all the way. Teheran has received 2.91 runs of support in his 23 starts and is winless in his last eight outings.
“I was trying to put it in play and I got it pretty good to start a rally”, said Teheran, who also made the last out of the inning. I’m glad that I had it today. Oswaldo Arcia went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and is 3-for-8 in two games since being claimed off waivers from Miami.
“From the get-go, he just looked really focused”, Braves interim manager Brian Snitker said.
The Braves almost got to September without their opening-day pitcher having a win at home, but rookie Dansby Swanson helped see that Julio Teheran’s Turner Field drought ended Tuesday. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 draft had only one RBI in his previous 10 major league games.

The only Braves starter not getting a hit was former Padres outfielder Matt Kemp. He left with no outs and the bases loaded in the fourth before Jose Dominguez struck out Dansby Swanson and Wisler hit into a double play.
Padres catcher Christian Bethancourt was placed on the 15-day DL after he suffered a left intercostal strain on a swing in Tuesday night’s game. Travis Jankowski had two hits and a stolen base for the Padres.
The Braves knocked out Jackson during a five-run third inning. Three consecutive singles followed, and later two more hits. He said his son was at the game Tuesday and gave him “great motivation”.
Teheran looks to rebound from the worst start of his season Wednesday at Arizona, allowing six runs on 11 hits over six innings in his second start since returning from a strained right lat muscle.

“He has the potential to pitch in the rotation for a long time”, manager Andy Green said.
