Uber lets its riders DJ via Spotify and Pandora

If the driver has connected music you will see a music bar at the bottom of the screen.

“The adoption has been really strong [on the driver side]”, Uber’s Holly Ormseth said, echoing the sentiment. By tapping the bar, you’ll be able to log into your Spotify or Pandora account and choose what song or playlist you want to play. And if they want to keep listening to whatever is booming out of their home system, the Uber app will allow them to seamlessly transfer their music into the vehicle without missing a note. Spotify has been available for awhile in your Uber, but the program was on temporary hiatus. It’s back now, and both Pandora and Spotify are supported. And, for the time being at least, you’ll have to have an iPhone. The music will automatically start playing once you get in the auto.

This seems like a potential recipe for social disaster. If your driver is using Pandora, you can preview what station and song is being played.

The agreement between Pandora and Uber makes it so that passengers can start picking their station before the driver gets to them. She does admit they were a bit anxious about it at first, however. Now, Uber plans on rolling out the Pandora feature to riders in the next few weeks. “PANDORA has 76 million users that listen for free”.

Using the Pandora integration through Uber is fairly simple.

Although Uber has partnered with Spotify as far back as 2014, the feature wasn’t widely promoted.

Currently, the music functionality is only available for the iOS app, but Android will be coming soon.
