Drew Brees: “I’ll be here as long as they’ll have me”

Brees and the New Orleans Saints agreed on a contract extension Wednesday, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, via a source informed of the deal. A person familiar with the matter tells The Associated Press that Henderson’s appeal is based on him using marijuana for medicinal purposes to allegedly relieve the effects of Crohn’s disease. No Saints fan wants to watch Brees throw touchdowns for another team. However, the preseason is when teams are testing out new players and trying to make cuts from their roster.

Oakland is a team on the rise and their 7-9 season is believed by many, to be a stepping stone to better things. The way the deal is structured will allow the team spread the cap hit out over the next five years.

If anyone with the Saints is overpaid, it is Payton, a 14-18 coach the last two years making $8 million a year, not Brees. “It really comes down to how long do I want to play”. “My mindset is always everything happens for a reason and everything will happen the way it’s supposed to”.

Having led the Saints to their lone Super Bowl in the 2009 season, Brees stands as the most decorated player in franchise history.

Since joining the Saints in 2006 as a free agent from the San Diego Chargers, the quarterback has produced the most prolific 10-year runs in National Football League history.

Brees was in the a year ago of his previous contract heading into this season.

This development comes a day after reports stated that Brees and the Saints organization had resumed talks about a contract extension that looks to keep the future Hall of Famer with the team beyond the 2016 season.

The Saints start the season off with a home game versus the Oakland Raiders, which is a good match up for the Saints considering the Raiders defense was ranked 22nd in the league a year ago.

A one-year, fully guaranteed $24.25 million extension is good money for the 37-year-old Brees. If his offensive line holds up – which is no guarantee given its preseason form – Brees should have the talent he needs at receiver, tight end and running back to move the ball – particularly with the addition of tight end Coby Fleener. Brees has put up the outstanding numbers but the overall record has been that of the Raiders lately. Normally, those stories would be front-page news.
