A woman has died after police said she was shot in the head on the State Route 51 on Wednesday night.
The woman told a 911 dispatcher she was being chased by three men in a truck while driving in Phoenix.
Police continue to search for a white work-type truck with ladder racks and a toolbox on it. They believe the vehicle may have exited on Thomas Road, but it has not yet been located.
Police didn’t say why the truck was following the woman. Police did stop several vehicles in the area but none were connected to the shooting. DPS officers and Phoenix officers responded to the scene and located an adult woman who had crashed her vehicle in the center divider along the HOV lane in between McDowell Road and Thomas Road.
She was then shot while on the phone with 911, and crashed her vehicle along the center divider, Howard said. When officers arrived at the scene, the woman was found.
It appears there were two to three crashes that involved four vehicles that were related to the shooting, police said.
Two people from the related crashes were brought to the hospital, Howard said.
Roadways were closed down for some time for the investigation.
