Sony Officially Announces Playstation 4 Pro & PS4 Slim

Among the alterations being made is the system’s light bar moving from the top of the system to the front of the console, but let’s take a further look at other modifications made to the PS4 Pro. The CPU portion of the processor is the same x86-64 AMD Jaguar with 8 cores (but higher clock speeds), however the GPU is now based upon AMD “Polaris” tech.

In more exciting news, Sony also announced the PS4 Pro.

Head of Studio Scot Amos explained, “We actually have a switch in the options menu, so you can dynamically switch between three different visual modes that we’ve incorporated into the PS4 Pro version”.

Guerrilla Games has also shared this incredible GIF as a teaser of just how breathtaking the game is looking on the PS4 Pro. For more on that check out our HDR explainer article. However, it sadly won’t be able to play Ultra 4K Blu-Rays.

The console is said to support 4k resolution and High Dynamic Range of display.

It looks like whatever the elevated resolution is will then be upscaled to 4K. The Japanese company is going to phase out the existing, what could be called fat, PS4, and replacing them with a slimmer version of the console.

House also added that it will not be possible to add 4K UHD to PS4 Pro via a firmware update, either. Are you willing to upgrade your console mid-generation?

But that kind of information notwithstanding, the numbers seem clear: Microsoft’s Project Scorpio will be much more powerful than the PlayStation 4 Pro – assuming you can wait another year for it.

Meanwhile, Sony also announced the new PS 4 Pro will be compliant with all games now existing or those coming in the future. The Redmond company just released the Xbox One S, which does HDR gaming, but can not handle gaming in 4K resolution.

Both the Xbox One and PS4 were released in November 2013. It’s also longer, but ever so slightly thinner.

In terms of memory the PS4 Pro has GDDR5 8GB.
