Students said they heard about two or three shots, KWES reported.

This person was dead from a single self-inflicted gunshot wound, Dodson said in the interview. No names have been released at this time.

Dodson says the victim was hospitalized in stable condition.

The sheriff said the 14-year-old girl and her family moved to Alpine about six months ago.

There was also a threatening note left at a motel in Marathon, Texas, about 30 miles east of Alpine.

MORE THAN ONE person has been shot at a school in west Texas, according to local media.

A motive in the shooting remains unclear.

“That’s ridiculous, for someone to call in something like this when we’re having, we’ve got this situation going on”, Dodson said. The university says the campus was being cleared by law enforcement.

The city’s only high school is at 704 W. Sul Ross Ave. The Sheriff’s Department said a federal agent was wounded by friendly fire, Marfa Public Radio host Travis Bubenik said in a tweet. Dodson said that the initial investigation indicates about five shots were fired in the school.

Alpine has a population of about 5,900 people, and there are approximately 280 students at the city’s only high school.

“Alpine School District has confirmed that all schools are in lockdown Thursday morning”, News Chanel 10 reported. The injured student is at a nearby hospital. That person’s identity, and the seriousness of their injuries, has not been released.
