According to police, the crash occurred around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday at Crawford Road and Heckle Blvd. The right rear passenger in the Prius was flown to Carolinas Medical Center, but later died in the hospital, Rock Hill police said Thursday.

Bollinger says officers tried to make a traffic stop on one of the vehicles involved in the crash when the driver fled, crashing at an intersection with two other vehicles.

McClinton was wanted by the S.C. Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services, and investigators had information he was possibly selling drugs and firearms out of his vehicle.

As the officers approached the crash, McClinton got out of the vehicle and fled on foot, Bollinger said.

The driver jumped out and ran from the scene, and officers were able to apprehend him a short time later after a foot pursuit.

Bollinger says police found ecstasy, crack cocaine, marijuana and two guns in McClinton’s trunk.

Police said once this person was in custody they complained about injuries sustained in the crash.

Heckle Road and Crawford Blvd. was shut down for several hours Wednesday as the investigation continues.
