Amy Adams leads 2016 Gotham Awards’ honorees

Amy Adams, Ethan Hawke and Oliver Stone will receive 2016 career tributes at the 2016 Gotham Independent Film Awards, the annual ceremony presented by New York’s Independent Filmmaker Project. Stone continued to challenge audiences over the years with films that were at deep odds with conventional myth – films such as Platoon, Born on the Fourth of July, JFK, Natural Born Killers, and Nixon – all of which were nominated for several major awards and earned him two more Academy Awards, among many other honors. Recent past winners have included Oscar nominees and winners Spotlight, Birdman, Boyhood, Citizenfour, Inside Llewyn Davis, The Act of Killing, Moonrise Kingdom, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Beginners, The Tree of Life, Winter’s Bone and The Hurt Locker. Anchoring the evening’s competitive awards are tributes to film community icons.

The organisers behind the Gotham Independent Film Awards have confirmed Amy Adams, Ethan Hawke and Oliver Stone as this year’s recipients of the actress, actor and director tributes, respectively.

Adams is on the fest circuit with Arrival, Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi pic that just bowed at the Venice Film Festival ahead of its November 11 release via Paramount. He, Adams and Hawke join a list of past Gothan tribute honorees that include Helen Mirren, Todd Haynes, Jeff Skoll and Robert Redford. Hawke, who will receive the actor tribute, was recently seen as Chet Baker in Born to be Blue and will next appear in Antoine Fuqua’s Magnificent Seven, which will open the Toronto Film Festival before hitting theaters on September 23. With a career spanning almost thirty years and many major accolades including multiple Oscar and Tony nominations, Hawke has established himself as a true and multi-faceted talent.
