Graham says Trump’s praise of Putin ‘unnerves me to my core’

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, the morning after a NY security forum featuring separate appearances by the two candidates, Clinton also slammed the businessman for praising Russian President Vladimir Putin and saying US generals had been “reduced to rubble” by the policies of US President Barack Obama.

Clinton held the press conference in White Plains, New York, before boarding her jet to continue her campaign travels, and she harshly criticized Trump for his latest comments about Putin, specifically his claim that the Russian president is a much better leader than U.S. President Barack Obama.

As reported by CNN, the American public was treated yesterday to yet another jarring statement in which Donald Trump praised Putin, Russia’s current president.

“Now, that is not just unpatriotic and insulting to the people of our country, as well as to our commander in chief”.

Trump made his comments about Putin and US top military brass, the latter of whom he said had been “reduced to rubble” as a result of the Obama administration’s policies, at a forum on national security and defense sponsored and broadcast by NBC on Wednesday evening.

“I think he is being very smart in how he addresses Putin and you know, maybe he’s playing with Putin’s ego”, said Representative Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee. “Far more than our President has been a leader”, Trump said.

The Wisconsin Republican – who reluctantly announced his support for Trump, but denounced many of his comments and policies – also blamed Putin for the series of cyber attacks against political party organizations and state election boards.

The forum offered a prelude to how Clinton and Trump will deal with questions of national security in their three upcoming presidential debates later in September and in October.

Ryan also seemed to give some cover to Trump when he was asked if the presidential candidate should present a detailed proposal to battle the terror group ISIS.

The former secretary of state vowed to defeat the Islamic State group, though she emphasised: “We are not putting ground troops into Iraq ever again”. She reiterated that she had made mistakes in relying on a personal email account and private server as secretary of state and in voting for the 2003 invasion of Iraq as a senator.

Both ABC’s Good Morning America and CBS This Morning highlighted Obama hammering Trump, but not his scolding of the press.

“I take it very seriously”, she said.

Anna Futoryan, a Russian working in New York City who was in Moscow on vacation, compared Trump to one of Russia’s own politicians, the eccentric veteran nationalist Vladimir Zhirinovsky who is famous for his outlandish views.

Clinton’s lead over Trump in national opinion polls has weakened in recent days. “We’ve never seen anything like this”.

But Graham, who has served in Congress since 1995, saved most of his criticisms for Donald Trump.
