Meningitis vaccinations available Monday
McPhee noted that vaccination rules are carefully considered and updated on the latest medical evidence, and encourages parents to check with their school nurses and pediatricians to make sure their children are up to date. That’s why the Department of Health has collaborated with the Department of Education to launch the “Don’t Wait, Vaccinate” campaign.

The recommended vaccines are covered by most private health insurance plans.
Before Gov. Bruce Rauner signed the new legislation into law August. 3, parents simply could write to their local school officials explaining the vaccines were contrary to their religious beliefs. “These types of changes may potentially also help improve outcomes for other health initiatives, including preventive care, disease screening, and chronic disease management”. “My grandmother always talked about how lucky we where because we had vaccines”.
According to a study by the CDC, researchers found that vaccines do not cause ASD.
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is reminding parents of North Carolina middle school students to be aware of recent changes to immunization requirements, effective for this school year.
“This is the first year for seniors to have this requirement, that’s why I think it’s somewhat of a rush on the particular vaccine”, he said. “Teens and pre-teens need additional shots because some immunizations wear off over time, which is why there are some booster shots”.
Even more importantly, because of immunizations, children are not dying from these damaging infectious diseases, and our communities with vulnerable patients are safer.
As part of the DOH’s campaign, the department is hosting over 61 clinics statewide between now and August 21. “We offer them at a low cost, just $6 each when paying cash”.

In a time before vaccines, closing schools and quarantining families was the only method public health could use to fight outbreaks. Children must be accompanied by an adult family member or legal guardian to receive immunizations. Parents must bring their child’s vaccination records to their scheduled appointment. DOH staff will need to be notified before the appointment if someone other than the child’s parent/legal guardian will be accompanying him/her.
