Nest intros superb new Thermostat finishes plus people detection for Nest Cam!
At least that’s the case in the U.S. On the Canadian Nest store, the thermostat is still only available in the classic silver option. Nest has today released a software update for its security cameras that might let you cut right to the chase, automatically packaging highlights together so you can more quickly get to the bottom of a potential home invasion.

“Additionally, Nest revealed that the Nest Cam Outdoor is now available for $199 for customers to purchase in the United States, with an expected launch date sometime in October for those in Europe”.
Nest calls the new feature Sightline and it uses algorithms that scan surveillance footage for irregular motion and sound, before packaging such suspect moments into events. It compiles all video history recorded by a Nest Cam into a single time lapse file that can be browsed at will, similar to the Logi Circle’s daily summary feature that displays the past 24 hours seen by the camera as a 30-second clip. Looking for the moment someone opened the gate two days ago?
Also, Person alerts for Nest Aware can alert you if a person is near your house rather than the camera being activated by a tree swaying.
These will essentially be the same images as you’re sent in an alert, but does present an easy way to see what’s been going on.
On top of all of that, Nest is also giving all users free 3-hour video history, with the unlimited history locked behind a Nest Aware subscription.

The good new is that the Nest Cam Outdoor, which was initially unveiled back in July, is now available in Canada via the Nest website for $249.
