Rams WR Pharoh Cooper out for ‘a few weeks’ with shoulder injury

The Rams announced on Saturday that they’ve reached a four-year extension with Austin that will keep him in Los Angeles until 2021.

Statistically speaking, Austin had his best year last season in St. Louis.

Austin was the Rams’ first-round pick (No. 8) in 2013. “It is important to our organization to retain players we’ve drafted and invested in, and Tavon is an example of that”. The Rams came away with a steal if Austin’s real name was Antonio Brown or Julio Jones. The contract includes $30 million guaranteed and could be worth up to $52 million with incentives.

With one more game to go before the start of the regular season, be sure to see where the Rams ended up this time on the 2016 NFL Power Rankings for Week 4 of preseason.

They were smart to offer him the extension when did, because if he had another career-best kind of season, he’d obviously want a bigger cut.

Austin does not only help the Rams in receiving and rushing, but also special teams.

Now entering his fourth National Football League season, Austin has 19 career touchdowns: nine receiving, seven rushing and three punt returns. In an interview he referred to Kenny Britt, Tavon Austin, and Cooper as “our top guys” at receiver. He has returned a punt for a touchdown in each of his three seasons in the NFL. I know people are putting out numbers and things like that, but they forget three or four punt returns that were returned for touchdowns that were called back.

That’s crucial to understanding Austin’s contract: It’s relative to the Rams’ situation, not necessarily the NFL’s precedent.
