Activision unveils Skylanders Battlecast free-to-play mobile card game

Activision is setting out to create a legendary league of card battlers with the mobile card battle game, Skylanders Battlecast. In it, players use their Skylanders heroes to battle against enemies using a physical deck of cards or a digital card pack purchased within the game.

Skylanders Battlecast will be a free-to-play app for Android mobiles and tablets, iPhone and iPad. However, it looks like Skylanders Battlecast will marry the collectibility of the Pokemon Trading Card Game with the typical battle gameplay of a successful digital card game franchise like Hearthstone. “This is our biggest investment, and one of our most magical ideas yet, for the Skylanders franchise on mobile”.

Skylanders Battlecast launches with competitive PVP multiplayer and a campaign. Register now for our GamesBeat 2015 event, October 12-Oct.13, where we’ll explore strategies in the new world of gaming. Those will interact with the camera on your mobile device to somehow bring animations to life, thus staying at least somewhat true to the Skylanders toys-to-life ethos. “Activision has assembled a team of experts across video game design, physical card game design, pro card players and top card artists to develop an wonderful new experience”, says Josh Taub, Activision’s SVP, product management, in the press release.
