Broncos’ Brandon Marshall Kneels During National Anthem
A Denver Broncos player is the latest to join Colin Kaepernick’s protest of the national anthem.

Brandon Marshall, a linebacker for the Denver Broncos, knelt during the National Anthem ahead of the NFL season opener with the Carolina Panthers Thursday night. The quarterback has refused to stand for the national anthem in recent games to protest what he calls a lack of accountability for police officers who have shot black men.
“I support Colin. I support ‘Kaep.’ I understand where he’s coming from”, Marshall told The Gazette newspaper in Colorado Springs during the preseason. “I disagree with it”, says Arians. I support him on that. What is means, the liberty, the freedom and, most importantly, all those who have served and those who are serving and those who will serve who provide us with that freedom.
He continued, “So I applaud him for taking a stand and hopefully the conversation is about what his message was and not, is he going to stand or is he going to sit for the national anthem?” Some people are bashing him on the Internet, but I’m not bashing him at all.
“The game for Monday is adequately staffed with Santa Clara cops and the stadium cops we use for any game”, Lt. Dan Moreno said Thursday. We have chosen to work with these two organizations because they have proven track records of affecting change in the face of challenging problems and have the collective reach to make the greatest impact. “I understand where he’s coming from, and I support him”.

The announcement comes days after 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick announced his commitment to donate the first $1 million of his salary to charity.
