Wozniacki out to enjoy US Open match against Kerber
Caroline Wozniacki continued her return to form by securing a semi-final spot at the US Open with a 6-0 6-2 victory over Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova.

The German Australian Open champion is a step closer to the top ranking – with Serena Williams now needing to reach the final to have any chance of avoiding dropping to second in the world.
“I think it just sucks for some of the other players who have to play me early”, said Caroline Wozniacki after defeating Madison Keys. A few of the balls I went a little bit too much on and made these small mistakes.
Before this tournament, Sevastovas best Grand Slam run was reaching the fourth round at the 2011 Australian Open, where she lost to it just so happens Wozniacki in their only previous meeting.
There is a comfort level that Wozniacki senses in playing at the Open that comes nowhere else, and she knows what it is to wait for court time in NY. “It’s really all that I can do right now”.
After rallying from a set and a break down in her opening match and then coming back from 5-1 down in the third to beat Japan’s Naomi Osaka, Keys could not find a way past the former world No.1.
“I’m staying more positive and believing in my game”, Kerber said. “I love to play here, I love this crowd”. Wozniacki’s father earlier in the week said she is contemplating retirement and the Semifinalist has been coy on the subject.
“Great memories, it is always on my mind”, Vinci said. Sooner or later, the Serena Williams era will draw to an end, and she has the drive, fitness and knowhow to keep challenging for the major titles that have thus far eluded her.
“She’s a tough player”.
“Now obviously I want to win every match, but it’s different”.
Angelique Kerber and Caroline Wozniacki meet in the semifinals of the 2016 US Open.
Serena Williams is without a doubt the most dominant superstar in women’s tennis, but she isn’t getting any younger. Wozniacki managed to reach the semifinal round of the 2.4-million-US dollar tennis competition in the year 2014 and is the eighth-seeded player of the tourney.
NEW YORK (AP) – Angelique Kerber earned the No. 1 ranking before she stepped on court, then she went out there and looked like a top-ranked player.
Konta, bidding to become the first British woman in the quarter-finals since Jo Durie in 1983, never recovered from a poor start.
However, Wozniacki earned a break of her own and climbed to within 4-3 with a quick change of momentum.
Their last two encounters occurred a year ago in Asia, both on hardcourts too, Wozniacki prevailing in three sets in quarterfinals of Tokyo and Kerber getting her revenge by winning in straight sets in the round of 16 of Beijing.

She said she will be playing the Asian season and taking it from there. I think it was just a combination of me not playing my best and not playing super smart and her playing really well. “She is strong again, she had great wins here”. “So whenever I’m home, I feel like I’m constantly in the kitchen”. I mean, how insane is it to say that you’re the best in the world at something? “It’s not going to be an easy one, but I’m excited just to have another shot”.
