Wenger admits Vardy scuppered Arsenal summer transfer plans
Wenger is closing on moves to bring defender Shkodran Mustafi and forward Lucas Perez to London with those deals set to take Arsenal’s spending towards the £100m mark.

Arsenal are priced at 9/4 to recruit the Algeria global before Wednesday’s deadline, ahead of Premier League rivals Everton (7/2) and Chelsea (7/1).
The Gunners moved on Thursday to trigger a £17 million release clause for Deportivo La Coruna striker Perez, while British media then reported that evening that the club had also agreed a £35m fee for Valencia defender Mustafi.
After Arsenal defeated Watford 3-1 to get their first victory of the new Premier League season, manager Arsène Wenger spilled some more good news in his post-game press conference.
The pair are set to cost Arsenal around £52m – taking the club’s summer spending to nearly £100m – and Wenger says he expects no more transfers before Wednesday’s deadline. Let us know by dropping a comment below via our Facebook comment box.
The pair are expected to undergo medicals in the next few days and Wenger admitted that both Perez and Mustafi are now on the verge of moving to the Emirates Stadium.
Nevertheless, with Arsenal making a far from impressive start to the new campaign, it’s quite possible that Wenger may be tempted to pay the big bucks for his long-term target Lacazette.
Wenger says there is frustration that the Mustafi deal is yet to be completed with Valencia playing hard-ball in trying to get the best deal for their captain. “I expect the next three days to be very, very busy, so be on alert!” “But he has gone to Sporting Lisbon and I think it’s an interesting challenge because Portugal has always a very interesting championship”.
The club said in a statement: “The striker Lucas Perez will not fly to Seville, with permission of the club”. “We don’t have any plans for anyone else now”.
