September 8: The Janata Dal (United) on Thursday said the time to hold talks with the separatists has gone and now action should be taken against them.

After witnessing the plight of the students hailing from Srinagar, Jammu and Ladakh on a news channel, Singh had first called up the journalist who reported the story and subsequently contacted the Rajasthan Education minister.

“If you do not want to talk is a different thing”.

The centre will also scrutinise their bank accounts and complete investigations in cases involving them as it seeks to send out a strong message against inciting young people in Kashmir, torn by violent clashes that have left over 70 people dead and almost 10,000 injured since July 8, when Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani was killed.

At least 74 people have been killed and almost 12,000 injured in the weeks of the unrest, the deadliest since 2010 when some 120 people died in firing by police and paramilitary troopers. Meanwhile, Kashmiri Pandits organisation Panun Kashmir refused to meet the visiting parliamentarians in Jammu saying they have humiliated the nation by not giving enough time to the representatives of various delegations to put forth their concerns. It must be remembered that when the then PM, Vajpayee, gave the slogans of ‘jamhooriyat, insaniyat and Kashmiriyat’, this was accompanied by a unilateral ceasefire announced by the government of India.

He, however, dismissed the prospect of any talks with separatists.

Pakistan’s teenage Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai has called on the United Nations, the worldwide community, Pakistan and India to work together to improve the conditions in Kashmir, which is presently witnessing a period of massive unrest.

“Everybody in Kashmir wants peace and normalcy to return”. Owaisi said in the meeting that a non-BJP and non-Congress fact-finding team of political parties should visit Jammu & Kashmir to meet a cross section of people to ascertain the loss of lives due to violence. The delegation spoke to these people, the Governor and the Chief Minister of State and also officials of the state government. Mere expressions of anguish are of little value, if not accompanied by a process of political dialogue.

Continuous unrest and shut downs in Kashmir Valle has further aggravated the situation in the last two months resulting into losses of hundreds of crores rupees of the industrial sector, said Mahajan.

General Dalbir Singh, Chief of the Army Staff, visited the Gajraj Corps at Tezpur, yesterday, as part of his visits to various formations of the Army, to review their operational readiness and the internal security situation.
