Caroline Wozniacki won’t have a long career, says father
The other semi-final is an equally attractive matchup pitting unseeded former world number one Caroline Wozniacki against second seed Angelique Kerber, who could leave NY with her second grand slam title and snatch Williams’ number one ranking. When I feel ready to open up and say something then I will, but for now I’m just here to play this tournament.

A win for Kerber would strengthen the German’s chances of snatching the world number one ranking from Serena Williams. Not only did she lift her maiden Grand Slam trophy in Melbourne, she defended a title for the first time in her career by winning Stuttgart once again, on home soil.
Wozniacki, the finalist in 2009 and 2014 and semi-finalist also in 2010 and 2011, sympathised with Sevastova after she spent nearly three months out of the sport with a right ankle injury earlier this year.
The 28-year-old left-hander, who won the Australian Open in January and was Wimbledon runner-up in July, is the first German woman to reach the final in NY since Steffi Graf in 1996. Kerber leads the series, 7-5. But at the end I know how I was playing in Cincinnati. “But for now, I’m just here to play this tournament”.
Ninth seed Tsonga gave him more of a workout, but even before an apparent left-knee injury began to trouble the Frenchman in the second set Djokovic had the match well in hand. Kerber opened the second set with another double break lead, and powered through to her third Grand Slam final of the year after an hour and a half. I’m not the favourite. I know how she is playing.
“She definitely gets some speed on it but her placement is really, really nice”.
“It’s something that very few people in the world have ever achieved”.
“Doesn’t matter if it’s tennis, football, being a lawyer, whatever it is”.
She was seeking to become the lowest-ranked women’s finalist at the U.S. Open, other than an unranked Kim Clijsters in 2009. I’m really happy for her.
If the German prevails today and goes on to dethrone Williams as world number one, Wozniacki will be one of the first to congratulate her coffee club friend.
That would move her past Steffi Graf and leave her one shy of Margaret Court at the top of the all-time list.
Kerber had downplayed talk about becoming number one but admitted it felt “just great”.

The Italian aimed sarcastic applause and a thumbs-up at the impassive line judge, but the veteran never regained her composure as she garnered just 10 points in a 24-minute second set. Sooner or later, the Serena Williams era will draw to an end, and she has the drive, fitness and knowhow to keep challenging for the major titles that have thus far eluded her. Despite an entertaining array of shots, the longer the rallies went the more he missed, his unforced errors eventually climbing to 37.
