The statement from the Security Council said members would closely monitor the situation and “take further significant measures in line with the Council’s previously expressed determination” without elaborating further.
The document was adopted unanimously, including by Pyongyang’s only ally China.
A senior diplomat from North Korea involved in stalled global talks to end its nuclear program has visited China, a South Korea news agency said on Wednesday, as China endorsed a fresh rebuke of the North by the United Nations.
The UN Security Council promptly issued a unanimous condemnation, but as we hear from Neal Conan in the Pacific News Minute- the launch presents hard political and military problems.
The council also called upon all United Nations member states to redouble their efforts to implement fully the measures it had imposed on the DPRK, mainly the comprehensive measures contained in resolution 2270, which among other points, expands arms embargo and non-proliferation measures.
In addition to its fourth nuclear test in January, the North has fired missiles throughout the year.
Park also said that she and Obama have agreed to enhance combined defense capabilities to include the deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system.
A missile is launched during a drill at an undisclosed location in North Korea.
The isolated communist state has been hit by five sets of United Nations sanctions since it first tested a nuclear device in 2006.
During their summit meeting on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Laos on Tuesday, President Park Geun-hye and her USA counterpart Barack Obama reaffirmed that the two allies would mobilize all possible means to counter Pyongyang’s continued provocations.
Obama said after the meeting in Vientiane that North Korea needed to know that “provocations will only invite more pressure and further deepen its isolation”.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Monday called for continued nuclear weapons development after watching three ballistic missiles being fired into the East Sea.
North Korea state media is reporting that the premier considers Monday’s tests “perfect”.
The remarks were published Tuesday with photographs of a smiling Kim and the fiery missiles taking off in the official Rodong Sinmun newspaper.

Speaking for Japan, Bessho added, “We think that it is necessary for us to think about what additional actions the council can take in unanimity, in unity in bringing about a change in the North Korean behavior”. The three missiles launched by the North on Monday flew about 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) and fell within Japan’s exclusive economic zone.
