Matt Lauer Failed As Forum Moderator
According to The Associated Press, there is a 2002 TV interview where Trump vocally supports the war.

“The hashtag “#LaueringTheBar” was trending on Twitter Wednesday night.
Due to Lauer’s inability or flat out disinterest in holding Trump to high standards in his answers, the NY businessman was able to tell a number of lies that could be easily refuted by the press, such as Trump’s new claim to have been opposed to the war in Iraq.
Clinton has pointed to Trump’s performance at Wednesday night’s forum, which focused on military issues, as evidence that a Trump presidency would put the country at risk. Clinton actually had referenced one such occasion when Trump voiced support for the war, during an interview with Howard Stern. Yeah, Lauer failed miserably, and if last night is any preview of what we’re going to see in the presidential debates, then we’re in for a very long nine weeks here, because last night was all about optics, all about forcing candidates to be uncomfortable, and there was not one second of anything substantive discussed during that NBC News Commander-in-Chief Forum. The lone exception: George W. Bush during his re-election campaign in 2004, when 52% thought he would outperform John Kerry before their first debate.
At a speech in Cleveland, he tagged his Democratic opponent with a new nickname – “trigger-happy Hillary” and repeated his incorrect claim that he opposed the war in Iraq “from the beginning”.
MATT LAUER: you recently received two intelligence briefings. But during a debate, a moderator has many things to consider: fairness, equal time, keeping the debate moving and not getting mired in minutiae.
The Post survey also showed widespread dissatisfaction among Kansans for both major candidates, with a vast majority saying they believe the nation’s well-being will be worse in the future no matter which candidate wins. Challenged, she didn’t immediately have the back-up material available, enabling Trump to sail past the moment.
PolitiFact, a nonpartisan fact-checking website, rated Trump’s claim about always opposing the war as false based on those interviews.
The Florida survey shows a pronounced gender and racial divide between Trump and Clinton. By contrast, he found 14 percent of Clinton statements he studied reached that level, which he said was typical of most politicians.
Speaking to reporters Thursday morning, Clinton suggested she agreed with Democrats who say she is being held to a different standard in the White House race. Clinton’s allies in the media are suddenly very anxious that she’s going to bomb in the debates, and the best way to improve her chances is to make the debate moderators afraid to answer tough questions about her many lies.
So much is a judgment call in the moment.
“That’s not my job”, he said earlier this week.

“It is impossible to moderate anything without being criticized”, said Lehrer, who did 12 presidential and vice presidential debates. “It’s just not possible”.
