US witnessed West Indies batting charisma as openers Johnson Charles (79) and Evin Lewis (100) hammered Indian bowlers all-round the park to post massive 245 runs for the loss of six wickets.
MS Dhoni of India sets the field as Johnson Charles of the West Indies looks on during the 1st worldwide T20 match held at the Central Broward Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Saturday.
Dwayne Bravo took a wicket with the final delivery as West Indies clung on to claim a thrilling one-run victory over India in the opening Twenty20 worldwide in Florida on Saturday.
Set 246 to win, India needed two runs off the last ball for a famous victory in the Florida sunshine.
The ICC will discuss the fiasco in the second Twenty20 worldwide between India and West Indies in Lauderhill on Sunday in its annual workshop for match officials next month.
The raining of fours and sixes went unabated with yet another Indian bowler, Jadeja was taken to the cleaners with Lewis pummelling him for two sixes as the Windies reached to their 100 in 7.5 overs at a rate of over 13 an over. He made 100 off 48 balls, comprising 9 sixes and 5 fours.
A niggle in his toe after a Brathwaite delivery stuck him did not stop the in form Rahul as he hit the very next ball for a boundary through the covers. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see with which team combination India will enter this match.
Charles’ innings featured six fours and seven sixes and when he fell in the 10th over, West Indies were well-placed at 126-1.
Dhoni, who was batting at the crease during the final six balls, said that although he had guessed the last delivery from Bravo correct, he failed to execute it properly.
Despite losing the match, India put the solid fight thanx to the heroics of KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and MS Dhoni.
While insisting that he tried really hard to propel India to the other end of the line, Rahul said that they were just unfortunate to lose the game by a whisker. Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah got two wickets each while conceding 39 (from 3 overs) and 47 runs (from 4 overs) respectively.
It was heartbreaking for India as their bowlers bowled with supreme control to bundle out West Indies for a mere 143 in 19.4 overs, leaving behind the bashing they had suffered in the opening match.
