The Solo’s specs haven’t changed since our earlier coverage.

A 16.1-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery provides electricity for the AC synchronous electric motor that powers the single rear wheel. Being a small auto, it can travel long distances using a small battery and it takes less than three hours for the battery to fully get charged. Acceleration is brisk but not exactly fearsome at a rated eight seconds to 60 miles per hour. The rear end of the automobile has a single wheel.

The newly launched 2017 Electra Meccanica is a single seater electric vehicle that has a total of 100-mile range on a single charge.

At 10 feet in length, a little longer than the Smart ForTwo and a little shorter than a Fiat 500, the Solo can slip into parking spaces marked for motorcycles. It will suffice to reach 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) under eight seconds but a freeway ride might get tedious because the maximum speed is of just 80 mph (130 kph). “Most people had a good idea of what the SOLO would become, but they will be impressed by its clever design and meticulous attention to detail”.

Amenities are relatively basic and include power windows, keyless entry, backup camera, Bluetooth connectivity, heated side-view mirrors, and an available air conditioner.

In his statement, Electra Meccanica Chief Operating Officer Henry Reisner chimed in with some high praise for the innovative new vehicle, calling it a auto that appeals to “driving enthusiasts, practical commuters, and the environmentally conscious”. “We believe the Solo will become the commuter vehicle of choice for the masses”. People might find it too innovative to their liking as it can accommodate only one passenger at a time.

Whether you consider the Solo as a daily commuter auto, an around-town second auto, or a fun way to try an electric vehicle, you’ll want to check with your state to determine whether it’s classified an automobile or a motorcycle. The model is expected to be priced at $15,550 in the U.S. Also included is a two-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, though the battery pack will be covered for five years. Interested buyers can also pre-order the auto by placing fully refundable deposits on the Electra Meccanica website, with delivery scheduled for sometime in 2017. Delivery is scheduled for an unspecified time in 2017.
