JWRC: Wear #11 to honor Jacob Wetterling

The Wetterlings came up with the idea after being approached by a children’s soccer team in Maryland that wanted to wear Jacob’s jersey number at their next game, said Allison Feigh, the resource center’s program manager. He loved playing basketball and soccer. His family has encouraged people to use the number and jerseys as symbols of hope in honor of the boy.

The Twins announced they’ll hold an online auction for 11 of the jerseys, with proceeds going to the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center.

The list was put together after a youth soccer team asked if they could all wear No. 11 jerseys for an upcoming game. “Our hearts were touched by a request from children to honor Jacob in this way”, she said.

Fans can go here to bid on the jerseys.

A Minnesota man’s confession to abducting and killing 11-year-old Jacob Wetterling almost 27 years ago has put to rest a mystery that had haunted the state and led to changes in national sex offender laws.

The game Friday begins at 7:10 at Target Field. On Thursday, they posted some of the photos they’d received to Facebook. Earlier this week, kidnapper Danny Heinrich confessed to sexually assaulting and killing the boy and led police to his remains. “Patty Wetterling and her family for years have turned their grief into action”.
