Arsene Wenger hopeful Arsenal’s players will return from ‘unwelcome’ global break unscathed

The hosts were starting to create more and defender Christian Kabasele nearly marked his Premier League debut with a goal but could only glance Etienne Capoue’s corner wide of the post. For us, the (international) break is not welcome.

Sanchez was denied by a smart Gomes save at his near post as the game opened up but the all-important second goal would come Arsenal’s way courtesy of a contentious throw-in decision.

Watford manager Walter Mazzarri: “The second half we were good and should have scored more”.

“So we are happy now, it’s confidence for the team”. They are a good Premier League side so they pushed for something to happen.

And as the 24-year-old former Everton centre-back closes in on a switch to London, where he will be play alongside fellow German defender Per Mertesacker, he said countryman Ozil helped persuade him to sign for Arsenal.

Mesut Ozil, who started his first match of the campaign, was on the scoresheet along with Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez. “Unfortunately they managed to score a goal and the game then became more lively”.

Both sides had one defeat and a draw from the opening two league matches but Arsenal’s impressive first-half performance earned them three points.

Watford now sit 14th in the Premier League table, just one below their opponents, Arsenal.

And after a strong second-half showing from the Golden Boys, Deeney believes there is more to come from his side still developing under Mazzarri. So, they will also try to kickstart their season with a win this weekend and so, we can easily expect a neck to neck fight for this game.

Wenger joked that he is “scared” of the total sum that Arsenal seem certain to spend and predicts the Premier League clubs will easily top £1 billion in summer transfer spending.
