A 24-year-old Glaswegian was removed from the flight at 16:45 local time (21:45 BST) on Thursday.

The flight continued to Orlando International Airport, departing Boston at 6:13 p.m. and was expected to arrive at Orlando Sanford International Airport around 8:40 p.m.

A force spokesman said: “Customs and Border Protection took custody of the 24-year-old man from Glasgow, Scotland”.

Crew members tried to keep him seated, and the pilot spoke to the unruly passenger before making the decision to divert the British Airways flight to Boston.

Massachusetts State Police were waiting for the flight when it touched down and said the man would be summonsed to appear in court on charges of interfering with the flight crew. “We’d like to apologize for the delay to the other customers on the flight”.

According to other witnesses, the British Airways passenger was getting increasingly drunker and asking people if he could exit the aircraft, which anxious the flight crew.
